Taking a page from WB and Rocksteady, Square has pulled FFXIV sales on Mac while citing “poor performance” as the reason for the suspension. Coincidentally, both games launched on the same day, June 23rd. Weird wild stuff.
Apparently FFXIV released prematurely due to miscommunication with retailers. As a result, the version of the game that went to market is actually a pre-release build, with the listed system specs being totally inaccurate. The whole thing is kind of complicated and long-winded, so if you want the full scoop, read Naoki Yoshida’s statement here.
The posting starts with an explanation on how Mac users can get refunds, and closes with the assurance that – once the quality of the game meets Square’s standards – sales will recommence.
